Paul Henry is one of those controversial characters who spends almost as much time defending himself in the media as he does reporting on it. Paul regularly hosts a popular New Zealand breakfast show and occasionally fills in on TV One’s Close Up.
I’ve never really paid much attention to him. Particularly as he hosts the breakfast show alongside the rather more distracting Pippa Wetzell. He tends to come out with some daft ‘edgy’ comments every now and again but no more so than Paul Holmes used to. No one can forget Paul Holmes calling UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan a ‘cheeky darkie’.
However, Paul Henry was recently awarded the New Idea People’s Choice award so he must be doing something right. On watching Paul Henry’s acceptance speech, my opinion of the guy improved somewhat. He certainly expressed an element of humour, intelligence and wit that Holmes completely failed to express.
Take a look at the video and see for yourself. Be aware that it contains strong language. And sorry but I can’t find a good photo of Paul Henry so I’ve included this one of Pippa Wetzell from the New Idea website instead. I’m sure you won’t complain.
