I didn’t pay much attention at the time but since then a mate of mine has drawn my attention to the unique way he actually records his music.

I was pretty rushed at the time so couldn’t hang around to find out any more details, but I’ve since learnt that the guy is known as DubFX. If you’re into the likes of Shapeshifter and Massive Attack you’ll love his music.

After looking through some more of his videos on YouTube, I’ve realised that the guy is even more of a musical genius than I first thought. He uses a system called the Roland Effects and Loop Pedal to record all of the sounds in his music himself. There’s no drums, no bass guitar, it’s all him. Check out how he makes a song live right in front of a bunch of people. This is DubFX singing and recording “Love Someone”:

Apparently the guy hasn’t signed to any record labels and you can’t buy his records in shops as he doesn’t want to commercialise his music and lose the passion. No price – just pay how much you think it’s worth. What a legend.
