How’s this for a ‘rags to riches’ story? The UK Herald reports that two homeless brothers have been living in a cave on the outskirts of Budapest, occasionally visited by some charity workers, and have now found out they are to inherit a US$7 billion family fortune.
“If this all works out it will certainly make up for the life we have had until now — all we really had was each other — no women would look at us living in a cave,”
Apparently a lawyer had contacted the charity and asked them to find these brothers as they were to inherit a lot of money.
Come to think of it, I have about 20 e-mails in my junk folder that mention long lost relatives trying to off-load their fortunes and wealthy South African business men looking for someone to take all their money for no apparent reason. Maybe I should start replying to a few of these.

A few months ago, during my trip to the UK, I was walking along Blackpool’s promenade when I came across the world’s largest glitter ball. At the time, I didn’t really notice anything unusual (other than a giant glitter ball right next to the beach). But … looking back at the photos … I can’t [...]

Just recently, Baveja jumped from Jungle Bungy Jump’s 165 foot platform. After his experience, perhaps it should just be called Jungle Bungy Jump as there wasn’t much bungy involved.
According to the company’s website …
Safety and Harness
Our harness straps to your ankles, one of our jump masters will ensure you are secure before going up to 50 metres!
If only they made sure you were secure before dropping back down that same 50m.
As Baveja came to the extent of the cord’s length, his harness slipped off and he continued his fall to the lagoon below. He suffered multiple injuries, including two collapsed lungs and damage to his spleen. Read more and see the video at http://lincolnnz.wordpress.com
I just read that an Afghan girl was killed when an RAF Hercules dropped a full box of leaflets on her head. Apparently the box was supposed to open in mid-air but it stayed closed and dropped like a rock.
What a fail. I wonder what makes them use airplanes over helicopters. At first I thought that the downdraft from the chopper blades would make a right mess of the leaflets but then I found this image so maybe not. An aircraft would have a lot less accuracy wouldn’t it? It would be so much higher up.

To be honest, I’ve always hated Blackpool. I can’t stand the forced tackiness, the skin-heads with their popped-collar Lacoste t-shirts, the fairground rides that look like they haven’t been serviced since 1923, and even the famous Blackpool rock.
Once the novelty of a stick with words printed all the way through it has worn off, you’re left with a pointy, sharp block of coloured sugar that cracks your teeth and doubles as a sticky weapon.
I decided it was about time I introduced my wife to my family and showed her the land I grew up in, so we booked a trip to the UK. I’m writing this while in my mum’s bungalow in a place outside Blackpool, England.
You have to laugh at Nestle Yorkie’s packaging. I remember these bars from when I was young in the UK. I loved how they were just pure, solid, bulky blocks of chocolate. Since I was last there, they’ve changed their branding slightly! My sister-in-law just came back from Ireland and bought me a heap of [...]
